WHAT
The future is a big word
(Robert Schumann)
Robert Schumann put it in a nutshell 200 years ago!
Nobody can predict the future, but we are called upon to do everything we can now to help shape the future for the benefit of all. To do this, we ask ourselves at the OT.S the question...
‘WHAT can music contribute’?
On the verge of a new age of unpredictable social, economic and technological shifts, the OT.S represents the think tank for researching, designing and implementing completely new fields of activity for the medium of music & sound at the interface to new social and economic indicators, new & deep tech, education, communication, social coexistence, sustainability, guidance systems & urban planning, anthropological and sociological futurology and much more.
At the OverTone.Space we create and develop new perspectives, new creative solutions and process approaches for a variety of interdisciplinary needs. We explore everything that music, as one of the first holistic forms of communication of mankind (the oldest finds of musical instruments date back to 47,000 BC) and the most universally understandable of all, is able to achieve on several sensory levels: auditory, kinaesthetic and emotional.
To summarise, we are working on creating new impulses for the music ecosystem so that it can interact with other areas of our lives in the most diverse ways.
A small example:
Let's imagine the whole of human development as a gigantic, exponentially growing and increasingly complex construction kit of constantly renewing economic, technological and social innovations and trends - an infinite number of components that are in a constant process of change and further development.
Thank goodness every construction kit usually comes with detailed instructions. Unfortunately, these instructions are also becoming increasingly complex, making them more and more difficult to understand. As a result, fewer and fewer highly specialised users have the necessary skills to use the contents of the kits for the benefit of society as a whole.
There is therefore no lack of new construction kits, but rather a lack of an easier understanding of how to use them - there’s a lack of new building instructions, some of which utilise new forms of communication and simultaneously function on several sensory levels to simplify their use.
And that's exactly what we do at the OT.S. We use the structural and communicative potential of music to create ‘instructions’ to make the complex applications of our time easier to understand and, ideally, more compatible with each other.
In the 'CURRENTS' section you will find some of our projects, collaborations and examples of how we use the communicative and creative potential of the medium of music and the associated structural work and thought processes in a variety of ways.
The 'tools' of the OT.S are to be understood as a multifunctional basic structure with which specific solutions for countless tasks can be developed and realised.
In the area of innovation, for example, we work with departments of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, Advantage Austria and EU initiatives to develop new, creative, versatile process and communication models. Or with BEYOND NOISE, we have developed our own music-based future forum together with partners from business and technology to better define common ground and possible synergies.
In the field of consulting, we share our knowledge in a business-oriented context in the form of innovative consulting and workshop formats with topics such as innovative team building, creative strategy and tactics seminars, intuitive management scenarios, etc.
In the arts, we work with ministries, cultural forums, concert promoters and industry stakeholders to develop new, sustainable models for communicating the arts, as well as new concert, education and training formats.
Collaborations with business and technology companies include, for example, the design and implementation of new auditory guidance and orientation systems to make complex applications easier to understand or to promote the creation of diverse, shared value.
It's all about music. About what it can do, what it could do and what it might be able to do! This is the OverTone.Space.
WHY
Why don't we put everything we have into everything we can do?
And why do we do such crazy things here at the OverTone.Space?
Well, quite simply. The medium of music has tens of thousands of years of empirically developed communicative knowledge and expertise. A vast, natural expertise of human culture and inventiveness.
But the continued existence of music and art, like countless other areas of life, is under scrutiny. The entire creative music industry is looking for new impulses to continue shaping the world. That is the 'why'!
And what is the best way to look for new impulses?
At the OT.S we have a simple approach. We question everything, absolutely everything, that we think we know about what the medium of music currently is and can do.
We then combine the insights we gain from this (and there are many, believe us) with your knowledge to come up with new ideas that could potentially improve our quality of life. Why don't we put everything we have into everything we can do?
To illustrate this, here is another well-known example.
Three or four thousand years ago, the ancient Polynesian seafarers colonised the entire Polynesian triangle between Easter Islands, New Zealand and Hawaii without any maps or nautical equipment. An area of 50 million square kilometres. All they had was their knowledge of currents, tides, winds, bird and fish migration routes and their intuition. To this day, science and research still do not fully understand how these people were able to navigate thousands of miles with such precision.
So why can't we do the same with music? Why don't we use it to 'colonise' entirely new areas of activity? Because we desperately need new 'habitats'!
As we search more and more vehemently for solutions, always the latest economical, technological or social innovations and geopolitical events descend like a 'cheese bell' on all areas of life, promising us 'paradise' and the solution to all our problems (didn't we already have that in the Middle Ages with the Catholic Church's policy of indulgences, which also promised us paradise?)
You don't have to be a sage to know that many of the man-made inventions, innovations and developments we use today are at least partly responsible for the current challenges facing humanity. So how can they offer a solution if they themselves created the problem? Please don't get us wrong - we are big fans of meaningful and sustainable inventions that benefit humanity - but any invention, no matter how well thought out, is just one of many tools (a construction kit) that can only reach its full, sustainable potential in combination with other tools. that’s the way we also understand the potential of music 'only' as a possible tool.
So wouldn't the most obvious thing to do be to combine the possibilities of all the resources available to develop new ecosystems, new habitats?
Again!!! Why don't we put everything we have into everything we can do?
WHO
„Be a good listener, be a good observer, be ready to question all your concepts at any time and be really brave for 30 seconds every day“ (Ulrich Drechsler)
Ulrich is a musician, composer, producer, curator and conceptionist. He lives and works successfully in several worlds at once. Since his early successes it has been the most normal thing in the world for him to question himself and his own concepts. He has never been afraid of new ideas. It was the old ones that frightened him. If there is so much to discover in the world, why limit yourself to so little?
The award-winning artist Ulrich Drechsler is considered one of the most versatile and unpredictable representatives of his genre. A multitude of different releases and several record deals are proof of this. In his diverse, cross-genre projects, he always uses the communicative potential of music to combine elements of the most diverse genres into a completely independent, multi-sensory sound language. For this purpose he created his own sound universe with LIMINAL ZONE years ago. You can read about Ulrich's entire artistic career HERE and also discover a part of his musical oeuvre.
The conceptionist and abstract-thinking visionary Ulrich Drechsler asks himself other questions: What exactly is music? How does it interact with our brain, with our (sub)consciousness?
What role does it play in the development and history of mankind? What secrets does it still hold? How can it help to shape the future of humanity?
To explore and answer these questions, the OT.S was created. A think tank where he and his team seek to redefine the possibilities of art in interaction with other disciplines. A manufactory for the development of individual and bespoke creative 'tools' based on music. And a forum in which Ulrich constantly engages with people from all walks of life, questioning, deconstructing and reassembling everything he thinks he knows about music.
HOW
To define means to limit (Oscar Wilde)
A marvellous quote from the great Irish writer that we have chosen as the credo for the OT.S. How do we do what we do?
Nowadays, music is primarily used for pure entertainment purposes: streaming, film music, background music for social media content and of course concerts. In the education sector the proportion of music as a subject is increasingly being reduced in favour of scientific subjects. In a medical context, music is primarily used as a supportive medium in healing processes (strokes, tinnitus, etc.) as well as in music therapy. Without claiming to be exhaustive, this is a very rough outline of the current ‘areas of responsibility’ of music as an art form.
Well, let's be really bold and ask ourselves what else could be done with one of mankind's greatest cultural achievements, apart from serving the largely monopolised mass marketing described above.
Or let's go one better, for the really brave among you: what would be necessary if the known areas of human-created music no longer existed or became obsolete?
Sounds crazy and absurd, doesn't it?
Does it sound crazy when you consider that in the coming years, the exponentially growing use of AI-generated and controlled production processes will take over and replace up to 70% of the above-mentioned areas of responsibility in the genre of music? This is not fiction, it is happening now.
So what do we do with the 'tool' of music, which has proven itself to be perhaps THE universal means of communication for more than 50,000 years?
In the OT.S we follow Oscar Wilde and try to dissolve any definition of what music can or should do.
To return to the example of WHAT:
We throw away all the familiar instructions for our huge, tried-and-tested music kit, take it all apart, mix it up really well and start from scratch, experimenting with what else might be made from it and how our kit might be combined with a variety of very different kits.
Of course, we don't build haphazardly into the blue? We get help and suggestions. We are doing this together with you, your ideas, needs, potential, expertise and technologies in order to jointly create new blueprints and new instructions for our future.
Which brings us back to „why don't we put everything we have into everything we can do“?
OBSERVATIONS
Ulrich has chosen a quiet but insightful place to publish his thoughts and experiences in the form of a regular blog. Unlike the noisy and chaotic social media, the MEDIUM publishing platform provides the necessary framework for people to come together and discuss the issues that interest and matter to them. This is the home of the OT.S blog.
The OT.S is a constantly evolving and growing framework related to anything we think might be food for thought for us and you, So we've decided to share all the photos, quotes, books, music, research results etc. - all the sometimes crazy things that inspire us - on the social creative research platform ARE.NA. It is freely accessible.
Our calling card! Our proposal to make you think! Our way of entering into a dialogue with you. Because we want nothing more than to explore with you the possibilities and ideas of how we can use the potential of music, a medium that has evolved over tens of thousands of years, to set cooperative innovations in motion.

CURRENTS
The genesis of the orbital symphony started in summer 2024 when we met Matthias during a conference. Matthias, the CEO of the Munich-based LeoConomy, a company involved in the commercial exploration of the lower earth orbit. Yes, we’re talking about the space!!
We discussed how music could be used as an additional multi-sensory indicator to make the complex technologies and work processes in space easier to understand, based on the fact that everything that happens in space still sounds like science fiction to most people. What is mankind doing there? is it only for the very rich? Will we leave our planet? What will happen to our families? These are some of the questions coming up when we’re talking about our future in space.
So what we need are easy to understand instructions about what’s going on there.
The idea of creating a guidance and orientation system based on the holistic communicative potential of music and sound was born. We listened to machine noises from the international space station or the noises of the planets (yes, each planet has its own „soundtrack“ and it’s possible to make it audible), we watched videos about working processes, learned about future plans regarding mankind’s journey into space.
But where to begin?
In 2025, before the real work will start we’ll begin work on the „orbital symphony“ for presenting our common idea to the public. In the form of three individual electro-acoustic concert suites based on sounds from space the „orbital symphony“ will mark the audible journey into the undiscovered expanses of space. Woohoo, we feel like explorers.
Jimena Suárez Ibarolla is a truly impressive and passionate person with a real vision and one of our very best friends! Originally, the Mexican worked as an environmental lawyer who dedicated her career to human and animal rights and sustainable development. But instead of despairing at the cumbersome legal system, she found auch better and more beautiful way to express her vision. She started her own fashion label, producing and selling products made from vegan materials such as coconut, bamboo or cactus as an alternative to traditional leather goods - the name: SENTIENT. We love it.
And what does such a fantastic young idea need? Visibility and reach, of course!
So we thought of the following. Jimena has chosen one single track from all the music Ulrich has ever recorded - „Entireness“ from the album Caramel. We have invited 7 members of our network LIMINAL ZONE SOUNDS to remix "Entireness" in 7 different ways for Jimena. Starting on world earth day 2025 (22nd of april), these 7 "sentiential entireness" mixes will be released one by one and promoted through all channels available to us and our cooperation partners to support Jimena and SENTIENT in their small global revolution.
Desire for a revolution. Stay tuned.
BEYOND NOISE is two things at the same time. On the one hand, it’s Ulrich's most ambitious musical solo format in which he explores new forms of conscious listening and subconscious communication together with the audience. Deep listening exercises, personal improvised face-to-face soundtracks are only some of the „tools“ he uses. These performances mark always a common journey deep into the heart of music and sound.
But BEYOND NOISE is more, much more!!!
It’s also the Future Forum Ulrich founded and organises several times a year in cooperation with the Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein. The most beautiful recording studio you can imagine and the perfect place for adventures like this. BEYOND NOISE symbolises a meeting place to present exceptional artists who are truly engaged with the future of music. To explore possible intersections with the medium of music with representatives from the most diverse areas of our lives. And to visualise to the audience what we can achieve when we really listen, watch and talk to each other. It’s a laboratory, a playground, a think tank - it’s BEYOND NOISE.
We admit that we adapted the title "Imagine Dignity, imagine Democracy" because we like it so much and it sums up the topic so perfectly. In our opinion this idea has never been more important than it is today.
With Imagine Dignity we want to share our decades of accumulated knowledge with institutions that are active in music education and mediation: universities, music schools, ministries, interest groups.
An example:
Austria is one of the few countries that actively promotes culture abroad worldwide through the work of the Austrian cultural forums under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The aim is to support bilateral relationships in a variety of ways through cultural exchange and to bring people together who would otherwise never meet. That is what art can do and that is one of its main tasks.
Together with the Department of International Cultural Affairs and the cultural forums, we are working on reform ideas to improve this important mission and make it more sustainable.
In 2021, Ulrich began to build as part of his music universe Liminal Zone an international collaborative network of artists from a wide range of electronic music genres, which was originally intended to expand his own music projects - LIMINAL ZONE SOUNDS. The idea behind is to generate a better understanding of the cooperative symbioses between analogue and electronic music. several remix albums already bear witness to this fruitful relationship.
The network, consisting currently of around 20 mostly younger artists, now forms the basis for the realisation of some of the first OverTone.Space projects. These include, among others „sentimental entireness“.
To get an idea of what LIMINAL ZONE SOUNDS can do, check out HERE, HERE and HERE.
You'll want to know where some of our crazy ideas come from? Ulrich has been a so-called pioneer member of the international BOLD Community since spring 2024. A place where visionaries from all over the world and from all imaginable areas of life exchange ideas and work together on sustainable ideas and solutions for all of our lives. The ‘orbital symphony’ and ‘sentiential entireness’ symbolise the first projects between the OverTone.Space and other members of BOLD.
SERVICES
We are always interested to hear about your ideas, visions and dreams. Let us discuss how we can create something visionary together. The overtone.space was created for exactly this reason - to experience adventures together, to explore visions together and to make them come true together. So if you are planning such an adventure and think we could be of help, just ask us. It costs nothing to exchange ideas.
Workshops are the best way for us to familiarise you with structural work patterns, some of which are completely different, that you can immediately implement in your own workflows. The arts in general, and music in particular, are based on a completely different set of structural action and thought processes than most other disciplines. It’s always a holistic approach that explores both the inner and outer workings of any structure simultaneously. Team building, intuitive management, co-operative innovation processes, creative optimisation models, etc can benefit sustainably. All workshop formats are fully customisable. Just ask us?
We love to share our knowledge through presentations, lectures or keynotes. Ulrich is a welcome guest at future-oriented system change forums or cross-disciplinary conferences that bring creative industries and creative thinking together with other ecosystems. Through his work in the BOLD community, he regularly collaborates with pioneers from a wide range of industries such as economy, new and deep tech, science, research, finance, sustainability, education, spatial and urban planning, sociological and anthropological research - and of course the arts. Want to meet a true visionary with an eye for the bigger picture and beyond?
Well, every great story deserves a real soundtrack, not just a few quickly produced digital sounds. Likewise, the truly great blockbusters would be unthinkable without the no less awesome soundtracks specifically designed to accompany their release. You agree? That's why we believe in the concept of electro-acoustic handmade music, to combine the best of the analogue and digital music worlds. The Austrian Amadeus Award winner Ulrich Drechsler is at home in many musical genres: neoclassical music, electronic music, jazz, film music, etc. To bring his musical ideas to life, he works constantly with an artistic team of more than 40 musicians, producers and creatives from almost every genre of music. So when it comes to creating a true sonic identity, you've come to the right place.
Our supreme discipline. Nothing gives us more creative freedom than to rethink or redesign something according to your specifications, wishes and resources. We come from a jazz background, so improvisation is what we do best. Coupled with intuition, which for Ulrich is the most important and most underestimated human quality. Together they form the core ability that we use for all our concepts and that can really be applied to everything. Because a good concept always comes from a 'construction kit' for which you either have no instructions or outdated ones. You start to build the model you have in mind, question it, reshape it in new ways, and suddenly you have something that goes far beyond the original goal. For us, that’s conception.
Consulting?! Honestly, who likes having their world explained and dictated to them? Nobody knows your world better than you do - it’s individual and has its very own needs. And if we are to assist you with our knowledge, then we’ll also develop a customised consulting concept for you - nothing prefabricated. What we offer is a different perspective, so that you may have a wider 'toolbox' of possibilities at your disposal for the tasks ahead, and perhaps use your available resources more effectively.

On the verge of a new age of unpredictable social, economic and technological shifts, the OverTone.Space represents the think tank for researching, designing and implementing completely new fields of activity for the medium of music & sound at the interface to new social and economic indicators, new & deep tech, education, communication, social coexistence, sustainability, guidance systems & urban planning, anthropological and sociological futurology and much more.

Deep listening exercises, personal improvised face- to-face soundtracks are some of the „tools“ he uses.
We admit that we adapted the title "Imagine Dignity, imagine Democracy" because we like it so much and it sums up the topic so perfectly. in our opinion, this idea has never been more important than it is today.
In 2021, Ulrich began to build an international collaborative network of artists from a wide range of electronic music genres, which was originally intended to expand his own music projects - LIMINAL ZONE SOUNDS.

We are always interested to hear about your ideas, visions and dreams. Let us discuss how we can create something visionary together. The overtone.space was created for exactly this reason - to experience adventures together, to explore visions together and to make them come true together. So if you are planning such an adventure and think we could be of help, just ask us. It costs nothing to exchange ideas.
